Violence is hard to escape because of the scars it leaves—on the body, the mind, and the heart.

Small, skinny, and timid, Matt is the school’s punching bag. He suffers in silence and holds no hope anyone will come to his aid. The last thing on his mind is finding someone special. He’s sure it’s impossible, so why bother trying?

Shane is no stranger to pain. At his old school, he broke a football player’s arms for tormenting his friend, and with his size and multiple tattoos, he looks every bit the thug everyone—Matt included—assumes he is.

Building trust isn’t easy, but a sweet yet passionate romance slowly unfolds. Their road isn’t without bumps, but Matt and Shane navigate them together, finding happiness and security in each other—until another act of violence and its aftermath threatens to tear their lives—and their love—apart once and for all. But like the symbols etched into Shane’s skin, some things are made to last.

This book was just wonderful.
It was my first experience with this author, and I must be honest,
after reading some rather negative reviews, I was a bit sceptical, so I downloaded a sample first.
Well, within the first two chapters it had 100% of my attention, so I bought the full book in a flash. (so very worth the dollar price).
It took me 4 days to read this hefty book, but I could not put it down, and read into early hours of morning.

The story :
What can I say? This is a beautiful coming of age story about friendship and trust and romance in its deepest form.
Some cringe worthy school situations so very well depicted, you can feel the anguish as if it were happening to you.

The writing itself is impeccable and flawless. Not...one...single...grammatical or editing error throughout. (and English is not even this author's first language.)
I award five stars for this fact alone.
The story and unfolding of events totally consistent. Character development spot on...and consistent. (This goes for side characters as well.)

I cannot find a single thing to criticise in this book!

Please, do yourself a favour; ignore the negative comments in the reviews and make time to read this beautiful story.

Standalone, with a gloriously rounded epilogue.

Heat level 3 (balanced and justified steamy scenes). Infrequent but explicit.
Moderate profanity.

Symbols edition by Mario Kai Lipinski Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I have never read this author before so I decided to give it ago based on the premise. I hardly ever read high school books because of the catty way people act. I liked this one and I think based on some other reviews I may be the only one. As I said the plot is what drew me in but the people kept me there. I wanted to find out if they could get through everything. There is trigger warning here and this book is raw and gritty. It can be heartbreaking as well.

This is a high school-based book and it was ok, however, there are some things that were off in my opinion. The timetable was different the people don't act or speak the way they should.

This book is based on perception and sometimes it hits a home run and others it doesn’t.
Shane and Matt were likable. They were cute together and Shane was a good guy. The dialogue, on occasion, was a hit or miss. They were young like I said 18 and 19, and were immature but spoke differently like they were older at times. It was also a long and drawn out book. I like long books but this one just kept going.

I had issues with the parents as well. The things these boys did, well I would not allow my son at that age. Now, what I liked was the premise/plot. It had great potential and like I said I really liked these guys. They were sweet and dare I say cheesy. They had their sexy moments as well. Shane had a huge heart and I really did him a lot. I was rooting for them to get the happily ever after. I think that was why I kept going. When the drama was unfolding at the end Shane had never wavered where Matt was concerned. Some of the decisions Matt made were not something I would have done but again I’m not a teenager. He was a bit too generous for what had happened to him. Then at that moment his attitude towards Shane then really irritated me.

With all that being said I liked it and it was an ok book and will read this author again.
First of all, I have to say that I fell in love with the author's first YA romance, so I've been waiting for another from him for quite some time. Symbols is a sweet and erotic romance with all the magic I was expecting and more. It begins with the meeting of Matt, a timid boy who's been bullied in school, and the new kid, Shane, who's so big that everyone imagines he must be in a gang or that he eats kids like them for breakfast. However, Shane actually has the biggest heart and he wants to give it all to the sweet boy Matt, whether they be friends or lovers.

This book was absolutely beautiful and had me hooked from the beginning. I would have been happy with the story even if it had ended with the love affair alone, but there was much more to it with an all encompassing plot and a HEA for just about everyone. Nevertheless, the love affair is what drives the story. Each touch and each kiss left me breathless and wanting more. The worst part of reading this book is that it ended. I'm going to miss Matt and Shane, but I look forward to reading more YA erotic romance from Mario Lipinski.
A young man who's been bullied most of his life meets a young man who's been feared a lot of his. The two form a tenuous arrangement, then gradually become friends and more. This is book is a romance with a bit of sex, some angst, and a lot of maturation and emotional growth. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written love story.
